Grito de Dolores, battle cry of the Mexican War of Independence, first uttered by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, parish priest of Dolores, on September 16, 1810. Every year the Mexican president shouts a version of ‘el Grito’ from the balcony of the National Palace on September 15, the eve of Mexican Independence Day.
